Rebecca “Becky” Iswara is the Founder of Midtown Speech NYC and a speech-language pathologist with over 15+ years of experience in the Education field.

As a licensed and certified speech-language pathologist, Becky wants to make a difference and be helpful resource to families looking for expert help with their child’s speech, language and feeding development.

Becky has been able to call Midtown East, New York City her home for close to 10 years. Now raising two boys here, she and her husband know how important it is to find top-notch services and classes for their children.

At Midtown Speech NYC, we are on a mission to help parents help their children thrive through high-quality speech, language and feeding assessments, interventions and classes, and by sharing trusted child development research online.

By combining her extensive training and in-depth education with her experience as a New York City mother of two, Becky is uniquely qualified to help your child improve his/her speech, language and feeding skills—and to support you, as the parent, through the process.

Credentials

  • Graduated Summa Cum Laude from Drew University with a Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Science (Anthropology, Sociology, Psychology)

  • Graduated with High Honors from the College of St. Elizabeth and earned Three New Jersey Teaching Certifications (Early Childhood, Elementary, Special Education)

  • Special Education Teacher prior to pursuing a career in Speech-Language Pathology

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Columbia University, Teachers College, which afforded her many unique clinical experiences working with diverse populations in various work settings. She has worked in NYC hospitals, private and public schools, clinics, and completed a clinical experience in Ghana, Africa

  • Nationally certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)

  • Licensed in Speech-Language Pathology in New York State and California

  • Earned advanced New York State Teaching Certification: Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD)

  • Earned title of Approved New York State Early Intervention Provider by the Department of Health

  • Advanced PROMPT-Trained (Level 2). PROMPT stands for Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets, which is a highly sought after therapy modality for children with motor speech problems

  • Advanced Training in the Diagnosis and Management of Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) using Dynamic Tactile and Temporal Cueing (DTTC)

  • Experience with implementing the Social Thinking curriculum by Michelle Garcia Winner; it provides students with social learning differences (e.g., Autism Spectrum Disorder, Social Communication Disorder) a social skills framework to become more aware of their emotions and thoughts, and in turn become better able to predict and relate to the emotions and thoughts of others

  • Earned the Qualified Orofacial Myologist (QOM) credential. Orofacial Myology is the science and clinical knowledge dealing with the muscles of the mouth and face (orofacial muscles) and qualified therapists address symptoms of orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMD) such as negative oral habits (e.g., thumb-sucking, prolonged pacifier use), atypical chewing patterns, atypical swallowing patterns and abnormal rest posture of the orofacial muscles.
